Ode to the Mercury Packet-Boat occasioned by the embarkation
of his Excellency Governor Tryon, for England.
Whilst all with duteous zeal contend,
To hail their own and country's friend,
Ere yet he tempts the sea;
A muse, unskill'd in courtly phrase,
Begs but to tune her homely lays,
O Mercury, to thee.

April 6, 1774.
